I have tons of pets and they're all very important to me. I thought I'd share a bit of information about them since I mention them in my blog and post photos of them on Flickr. Click on their pictures for larger versions.
House-cats
We love our house-cats but we don't think they love each other very much. They love to fight and often don't cross paths without a hiss or a paw-smack.
Charlotte "Chi"
Chi was our first house-cat. We got her from some lady in the area who had a house full of cats (the house was just for the cats, she lived elsewhere…). Apparently, when my parents went to the house to pick out a cat, she came up to them and kind of just chose them. Chi is now about 6 years old. She loves to chase her tail and is pretty much batshit insane, but we love her.
Ruby Tuesday
I wanted a puppy to keep our dog company and my parents didn't think that was the best idea (looking back I agree with them), so they thought getting a kitten would be a good compromise. We got Ruby from the Animal Rescue League as an orphan as her mother had been hit by a car. Ruby is now about 5 years old, and is quite obese (she's about 18 lbs and she loves to eat!). Ruby's name came from my birthstone, since I got her for my birthday.
The Toads
One day my parents were walking around and heard some meowing in a building (now the official "cat house"). Inside, curled up inside stacks of straw bales were six kittens. There was only one female cat around, so we figured out that she was the mother. We hadn't seen her around for a while and were worried because the kittens were only a few weeks old. We never found her. We ended up syringe-feeding them with kitten formula. All but one survived initially; Oxi had to be put down due to distemper. We lost Tiger recently due to an injury caused by a fight. Anyway, the Toads figure that they think I'm "mom" since I raised them- they follow me everywhere. They come to me when I make kissy and squeaky noises. The toads were originally named "the turds" by my dad, but, my mom being my mom, didn't approve of the name. Somehow it evolved into "the toads", and we've called them that ever since. I named all of the toads myself (keep in mind this has been a few years ago).
Gigi
Gigi is the big sister of the Toads. She is the only one that isn't completely gold. When you pick her up she'll put her front legs around your neck and give you a hug, which can sometimes be annoying because she likes to knead with her claws. She loves to give me Gigi Kisses which basically means she rubs noses with me. She is kind of the secret 'favorite' toad of everyone, and she knows it. I sometimes call her 'spoiled brat cat' and 'little princess' because of that.
Cheeto
Cheeto is a little sweetheart but is sometimes a meanie. He's probably the lightest colored Toad, and is not orange as his name might suggest. He's often called "little bear" because in the winter he gets very fluffy and looks like one (or he looks like he's wearing giant sweatpants). He's outside around the house a lot, and loves to follow people around. He'll raise up on his hind legs if you scratch his forehead. He also looks a little funny because his lower lip dangles a bit so he looks like he's halfway smiling or something.
Smudge
Smudge is named for a dark smudge he had on his nose as a kitten (probably dirt, but the name stuck). He's probably the most playful of the toads and never seems to get bored of playing. He's also very shy and likes to be underneath things like benches, chairs and our cars. He doesn't like his ears to be touched (he used to have a huge problem with ear-mites, and we medicated it by pouring liquid in his ears, which he despised). He's not much of a fighter, and generally is nice to the other cats. He's recognized by his wide forehead and big round eyes.
Angel
Angel is the little sister Toad. She's the smallest and is recognized by her small, sweet face. She's very friendly towards humans and loves affection. She doesn't get along well with other cats and just avoids everyone, except for Smudge, who seems to be the only kitty (even among her toad siblings) she gets along with. All of the harsh treatment she's received from everyone causes her to be very cautious. She'll even crouch down when I approach her until I talk to her or pet her.
Other Kitties
These cats all just showed up on the farm, and we believe they either migrated from another farm or were dropped off.
Elliott
Elliott is a sweet little guy with a big heart. He loves to rub up against people's legs. His eyes are a little too close together, leaving him looking a little awkward, but he's quite adorable. He's friendly to all the other cats but gets beat on by most of the Toads. He and Elvis are best buds and you rarely see them apart. They love to headbutt and rub against each other.
Elvis
Elvis is another very friendly cat. He's like Elliott; the Toads aren't friendly towards him. He walks up to you and stretches, almost like bowing, which is his signal for you to pet him. He's a very soft cat, and he spends a lot of his time grooming. He also has long fangs so he looks like he'd be tough but he's really not. Like I said above, he's always with his buddy Elliott.
Marley
After naming Elvis, I swore I would name our next cat Marley (another musical name that would just sound awesome for a cat's name). Then she showed up and got the name. She's a sweet cat, but like Elliott and Elvis she isn't well liked by the Toads. She's gotten pretty fat since she came to us and she kind of waddles when she walks. We haven't had Mar-Mar for very long; it's only been about a year. Dash was also somewhat young when Marley showed up, and ended up breaking her skull when he was playing with her. She was fine and got treated accordingly and Dash now knows better not to mouth our kitties. Marley is also now very fat and she refuses to come out of the "cat house" in the winter.
Dash
Before Dash, we had a Golden Retriever named Luke who we had since I was about 7. After he passed away, we decided that the farm definitely wasn't the same without a farm dog. Dash, also a Golden, is very different than Luke was; he explores more, barks more, and is very rambunctious. He is still a puppy, though, since he's only about two years old. He loves destroying things and has ripped apart many toys since we got him. We once got him a nice, fairly expensive doggy bed; it was torn up within a few days with pieces of it all over the yard. He's ripped the squeakers out of squeak toys and chewed holes in rugs. Now he sticks to water and pop bottles. We still love him, no matter how many things he destroys. We've learned our lesson to not waste money on things he'll just rip up.
No Longer With Us
Tiger
Tiger (AKA "Big T") was the big brother of the toads. He had a long, narrow face and big paws. He was also slightly darker orange than his brothers or sisters. He went hunting a lot during the day and the night, but loved to hang around people. He was quite afraid of heights, so when you picked him up he'd dig his claws right into you and wouldn't let go until he was on the ground. He was naughty sometimes and fought with other cats, even his brothers and sisters. Because of that he got injured on his neck, and we tried to heal it for almost a year before it caused him to have to be put down.
